I've seen my fair share of medical television show episodes. Grey's Anatomy, House, Bones (when they live), Private Practice, just to name a few, and just about any other tv show where people get hurt and end up in a hospital bed. Let me tell you, they've become almost TOO predictable. Am i right? Here's how it goes.
First, there's someone who's sick with something, who knows. The doctors think it's something, but we all know they're wrong. So they find a way to make the patient comfortable. And of course it can't be just about medical stuff, what kind of show would that be?
Then, naturally, there's some kind of sexual tension in the hospital, and waaay too much flirting. Also, everyone looks great! I mean, all those surgeons walking around in cute anthropology dresses, perfect hair and make up, and freaking stilettos! No wonder they can't keep their hormones and emotions under control. And I mean, if that isn't real life, i don't know what is.
And of course, doctors can't get along, because then everything would run smoothly. They end up fighting in front of the patient, and then out of nowhere BOOM! THE PATIENT IS THROWING UP BLOOD! and they discover their medical hypothesis was incorrect!!! (duh)...I mean, i don't know about you, but if i had a quarter for every person i've seen on tv in a hospital bed throwing up blood, i could probably buy a pair of really cute Steve Madden Boots for this winter.
After some more tests are run, a couple deep dark family secrets are revealed here and there, and a couple somewhere breaks up or suddenly realizes they were meant to be together, then the episode ends either by a heart felt or deep narration or by everyone going home at the end of the day to their significant other (if they lasted through the day) or their dog.
So predictable. Everything. From the music playing, to how much background noise there is, to the amount of time it's been since someone on the episode died bled or cried, its ridiculous. Yet, i continue to watch them. Every week. Without fail. I love it.
But i guess that's just because i'm a 'routine-based' person. I like consistency! i get into that later.
Moral of the story: if you think being a surgeon means anything like being one of the people on Grey's or being around total lunatics like on House, you are WRONG. If that's why you're in med school, QUIT! QUIT NOW! GET OUT! Go get a dog and start dating, get a life. Eat some food, sleep, watch a whole season of Gossip Girl in one weekend and forget about that stuff. Because Gossip Girl is totally real life, right?
